So when I was in California my sister in law Brooke told me that while she was browsing blogs she saw this picture of a painting that looked like one of mine. She inquired about the painting and received the response that her cousin from Idaho had painted it and isn't she amazing? Well I checked out the blog and I have a hard time believing we both came up with such similar compositions. I don't know maybe it's me but I'm not buying it. I'd like to hear others opinions.
My painting

Her cousin's painting

I don't believe in artistic coincidence. It seems impossible to have this other painting be so close in comparision with yours. Even the colors are very similar. I really think your painting was copied. Had someone copied a Monet everyone would be able to tell. Someone has copied a Kathy...and I can tell.
Wow. That's clearly a copy. There's no way that's a coincidence. Who is this cousin anyway? Whoever is copying you should fess up to it. Otherwise, that's lame (and illegal, I think).
Yep, definitely a copy. Do you feel a little flattered? I would if someone liked my work enough to copy it and call it their own.
I wouldn't worry about it too much. The copy is clearly NOT as good as the original.
i guess...
take it as a compliment.
yours is beautiful. that is all there is to think.
but.. yes... funny... not ha ha. but funny
mmmmm...what a little thief. You have every right to be a bit cross. Oh well, at least yours is worlds better dear!
Thanks everyone for being so kind. Today I don't really care about it so much. But last night I was totally bugged, so it was nice to get all the comments.
I can't believe you copied that person's art. That does not sound like you but it is clear that you did. J/K
You should do more research, where would she have seen yours, was it a Logan or school thing, etc. I wish I was independently wealthy and could take this case.
I think you should contact her and ask her all sorts of innocent questions like, "Wow that's really remarkable how similar your painting is to mine, what do you call it?" "What gave you the idea for this piece?" Do you have others like it?"
She needs to know she can't get away with plagiarism or she'll just keep doing it.
Beautiful painting Kath.
Hers is a major, big time COPY. Ugh I hate when people do that. Do what Becky suggested.
I put off looking because I was afraid it would be bad...and it is.
I love "beautiful hole" and after living with it for years the copy is painful to look at.
It's a good thing the person gave it away and didn't try to sell it.
Maybe they are practicing just like those little British kids do when they sit in the National Gallery and copy great works to improve their skill and appreciation. Only this person is from Idaho. There are no National Gallery(s) so they had to find
their master's work on the internet.... Nope, still doesn't work because those British kids say "Copy of Manet's _______". And it appears this person has tried to take all the glory.
wow. That is too much. I can not believe it! I assume she saw it on your website? Amazing.
Holy cow. I am not cool enough for anyone to copy. I guess I really need to get a website up... anyone interested in making it for me? :)
Freya is driving me crazy, she really needs some more baby yoga. I think I need to fly you out really soon to help me be a Mom.
You gotta introduce yourself to her. She'd have to be honored to meet you. You'd make her day.
Two thoughts:
1. 'if you must copy, copy from the best' and
2. your painting IS inspiring.
Well that's okay. Yours is still SO much better. Plagiarism is irritating... in a flattering, inexplicable way. I've had a couple of things of mine ripped off on exactly 4 occasions now, and while I'm totally stoked (because I don't even have a site, most of my stuff isn't even online, AND... I'm really not even old enough to be anywhere NEAR popular) ...it's also like "Hey! Come up with your own damn art!!!" hahaha
I love your blog, by the way. ::linking::

other stuff along the same lines, I like yours better for sure anyway.
